To change the last name prefix, first, you need to identify what you need to change.
Below are some examples.
Adding the Last Name Prefix
The entity Person is named Michael van de Holt. However, the last name prefix van de was added to the last name accidentally.
Follow the steps below.
- Remove van de from the last name field.
- Add a middle name field.
- Add van de.
- This will bring down two options.
- Correcting type
Use this if you only want to be able to search by the name you are editing too. - Person changed his/her legal name.
Using this will allow you to search for the entity using its previous name.
- Correcting type
- After making your selection, click Save.
- Refresh the page to ensure the change has been saved correctly.
Editing the Last Name Prefix
Example 1
The entity Person named Michael de Holt should be Michael van de Holt where van de is the last name prefix.
Follow the steps below.
- In the last name prefix field, simply add van before de to become van de.
- This will bring down two options.
- Correcting type
Use this if you only want to be able to search by the name you are editing too. - Person changed his/her legal name.
Using this will allow you to search for the entity using its previous name.
- Correcting type
- After making your selection, click Save.
- Refresh the page to ensure the change has been saved correctly.
Example 2
If another name is meant to be in the last name prefix, you can just add the name where it belongs in the last name prefix field.
For example, if you want the last name prefix to be George van de, then just add George before van de.
Example 3
If the last name prefix contains a middle name, you will need to do a few steps to ensure that the editing is correct. In this example, Michael George van de Holt is the entity name, whereas George should be a middle name and van de is the last name prefix.
Follow the steps below.
- Add a middle name field. This will add a field just before last name field.
- Remove van de from the middle name field.
- Add van de to the last name prefix field.
- This will bring down two options.
